Richard Jana joined the group in February 2021 as a postdoc, to study catalysis in the iron-carbon system using machine-learning potentials. He got his BSc and MSc degrees in materials science at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (2009-2015), working on the magnetic properties of Fe2O3 clusters using DFT and the inter-solubility of Al2O3 and ZrO2 using Monte Carlo simulations. After this, Richard went to Karlsruhe and subsequently Freiburg for his PhD in Lars Pastewka’s group (2015-2020). There he studied the structure and mechanical properties of amorphous carbon and metallic glass systems, using MD calculations with classical and machine-learning potentials.
