IEEE Young Professionals Awards

From July 23rd to July 26th I attended the IEEE Nano 2018 Conference in Cork, Ireland. Since I got my PhD in 2013 precisely from University College Cork, this was a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, discuss about ongoing collaborations with my former group in Tyndall, learn about the latest developments in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and, of course, present our recent results on machine-learning driven molecular dynamics simulation of the deposition of tetrahedral amorphous carbon, which appeared in Physical Review Letters earlier this year.

I was extremely happy to find out that my talk was selected as Best Oral Presentation for the IEEE Young Professional Awards at this conference. This is a nice recognition of the importance of this work and also of the usefulness and power of machine-learning driven simulation of real materials.
